- Anyone that reads fully this article will have good idea about what is going on and share hopefully with me the feeling that something has to be done. . . Something that each of us can do and at least start taking better care of ourselves as well as getting informed and more educated about our own lives, before anything else.

There are plenty of reasons why I have decided to do something about several Social Health Issues that are complementing each-other, turning into a Serious National Health Care Problem and jeopardizing our future as the Society. . . But, there is only one reason that initiated my involvement in this Social Problem domestically, and globally even more complex issue. That reason is very early, I should say too early birth of my daughter. . . She was born during the 24th week (5.5 months) of my wife’s pregnancy, weighted only a single pound and six ounces and She spent four months in Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit of Good Samaritan Hospital (Los Angeles, California) while three months out of those four in the Incubator, hooked on Breathing Machine most of that time. At the time of her birth, her lungs were not developed yet. . . But regardless of any difficulties she was facing or going through, she beat all the odds and surprised even very optimistic prognoses of her doctors. . . Thanks to People and Serious Divine Help during such a highly dramatic ordeal, she is today Happy and Healthy Child as it gets, occupying our hearts contagiously and making us Happiest Parents on the World.
But, regardless of such a miraculous and wonderful outcome, my daughter’s birth ordeal initiated my involvement in this serious social problem and got me “scratching the surface little deeper”. Initially my research was done just to inform and educate myself so I could be there for my Little Girl in a right and knowledgeable way, so I could be In-The-Know for whatever life brings upon us.
I have found that Preterm/Premature Birth is the leading cause of Our highest Infant Mortality Rate (IMR herein) among all Developed Countries in the World (Canada, Europe, Australia New Zealand – you name it. . . ). According to the CIA reports for 2012 World’s Infant Mortality Rate, US has the highest percentage among all Developed Countries and Western World (6 infants out of 1,000 born) while that rate sky-rockets when it comes to Developing Countries (up to 122 deaths of infants per 1,000 live births). One could say that: “Six deaths out of 1,000 live births is not that alarming number, compared to some other countries throughout the world. However, we all should have in mind that the Problem of Premature Birth does not stop with those 6 domestically reported Infant Deaths.
Those domestic 6 deaths per 1,000 are only the beginning and indicator of a much larger and more complex problem than many of us are aware of. Although US IMR is slowly, very slowly dropping or coming down (from 6 deaths per 1,000 born children in 2012 year to 5.87 deaths per 1,000 born in 2015), difference is really negligible when it comes to the Social Disaster it creates indeed financially, economically and/or any other way.
It is hard to assume what dead born children could become down the road if it happened that they lived normal human lives. . . However, aside the fact that children lost lives, the parents of dead born children have lost a kids, Society has lost Valuable Members who would make an average of 1,500,000 over a single life span (per the current statistics) and did a lots of good things for other Members of their Families and Society generally, it is definite that such losses reflect negative on the entire World…
Except that, Global Infant Mortality and Disability Rates reflect also on Global Health Care, financial and economic strength and status of all Countries in the World, regardless of its group. And, here is few words about how IMR further translates into various Social Issues and Problems that are often too costly at any possible aspect of that word. . . Unfortunately, just like in any Natural Disaster (with seldom exceptions), there is always many more injured people than dead ones and the same Natural Laws apply when it comes to accidents of Preterm Births. . . There are many, many more infants that do not wind up on CIA IMR list, but end up with Developmental (Permanent) Disabilities.
If we look at US National Infant Disability Rates – those six deaths per thousand of IMR, turn into 60 – 70 Developmentally Disabled Children out of 100 Early or Too Early Born??! We are talking about up to 60% – 70% of Preterm Births that wind up with Permanent Developmental Disabilities, depending on the gestational age of Prematurely Born Children. Now, we are talking about 600 – 700 out of 1,000 live preterm births that wind up with Developmental Disabilities. . . (I wonder what would be the increased percentage rate compared to IMR. . . 1,000%, 10,000% more than the rate of Six Deaths per 1,000 Live Births. . . Go figure?!)
Aside of permanently damaged Happiness of Parenthood that Parents of such children experience, those children become unproductive or in a better case somewhat productive Society Members while their parents and/or families wind up with the lifelong emotional injuries and scars caused by enormous sadness they feel. (It is quite hard to be fully happy knowing that no matter what one do or could do cannot make their child healthy, ever.) People in such situations mostly learn how to cope with their situations and manage lifelong sadness that comes and goes about the fact that their children will never be Healthy Individuals. My heart goes out to them more than to anyone else. . . I am the parent myself and I know how hard that could be. Except that, I was so close to be in their shoes that only Miracle has saved me from it. I wish so bad that I could do something for them to change their position and turn those children healthy like the rest of new-born kids, but unfortunately, I can’t. . . No one can.
However, I can do something for you, for others who are about to become parents. . . I can do something for other people and make sure that these tragic events do not happen or at least, not that often anymore.
Just to give you an idea about the size and/or scope of the problem, here are some statistics on Developmental Disability Rates in US: Government pays approximately $4,000 per month for 24 hours home care of a single Developmentally Disabled Person (DDP herein), not including medical care (medications, doctors’ visits, etc.), various insurances, rehabilitation, education, transportation, etc.] http://www.cdc.gov/Features/dsDev_Disabilities/
Once again, above mentioned costs are for a single individual, Developmentally Disabled Person. I will never forget the look of a woman whose child had spent time in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, together with our daughter. Unfortunately she was not that lucky to have her child recover well and fully from Premature Birth, even though, her child was born more then a month after our daughter. (At that stage of human life, four weeks is approximately like a decade (10 years) evolution of mature human life.) I have never seeing the pair of eyes filled with more such a condensed pain and sadness than her eyes had during our elevator ride on the 8th floor of Good Samaritan Hospital of Los Angeles, where Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is located. And, I have never felt so crashed and devastated by someone’s tragedy and look. I can still clearly see her looking at me helpless and quiet while her whole body was screaming for help.
That was the breaking moment in my decision to do something about this Serious Social Problem. Her sad eyes had become significant motivator during the origination and development of this Educational-Informative Literature “Gift of Mothers” as well as in entire Educational Project.
RESEARCH – EXCERPT AND CONCLUSION
Regardless of the aspect of my research and studies (National and/or Global), I have found couple of major and fundamental reasons in common that are greatly contributing to US Preterm Birth Problem and globally, thereafter . . . Lack of common knowledge about Pregnancies and/or Natal Period as well as inadequate personal Health Care, lack of Health-Conscience and uninformed approach of General Population towards it, as well as Disproportional Response of Medical Communities towards Prevention of Preterm Births are THE CAUSE NUMBER ONE of high rates in Preterm Births and its side effects, Nationwide and throughout the World.
Unfortunately, this couple of issues is closely related that its existence has been characterized as a single problem. Its existence in Complimentary Habitat has been forming compact, productive and encouraging environment for the Preterm Births, allowing self-sufficient Progression of the Problem and that way Creating its Breeding Ground.
Due to the fact that these issues are feeding of each-other and constantly growing as a more and more Serious Social and Global Problem, jeopardizing the entire future of affected societies – social structures of societies affected the most are often unusually vulnerable, exposed and much less healthy which further translates into the Economic and Geo-Political Problem – the Physical Endangerment of the Affected Societies and GLOBAL DESTABILIZATION.
Considering the fact that with the Status Quo (current situation) in Preterm Births, the Future of Affected Societies has been built slowly “on the feet of glass”. The question is not if affected Countries are failing or will they fail at last. . . The only question is – When it will happen, if appropriate Preventive Measures have not been undertaken. Such complex and difficult Social Problems certainly have capacity to endanger seriously the whole Future of Affected Societies, therefore – the entire World. . .
Preterm Births is very Serious Problem with the most severe Socioeconomic Consequences because, it is affecting the core value of Human Existence – THE BIRTH.
Unmanageable and/or not sufficiently manageable Preterm Births Problem translates into various social issues and problems as well as creates and triggers many others in addition to it. The best proof of my statement and closest example could be found in our (US) Health Care Inclining Costs and Declining Quality. Yes, Preterm Birth reflects also on our Health Insurance Premium/Rates because Insurance Companies are the ones that pick up the tab and wind up with Million Dollars bills or more per a single occurrence. (Aetna Health Insurance Company had paid well over a Million Dollars for our daughter’s health care during the time she was in the hospital.)
So, we all have been affected by this “Sneaking Cancer to Our Society and the World” (Preterm Births Problem) one way or the other. If we are lucky enough not to experience that the happiest moments of our lives (birth of our children) turn or threatening to turn into the most tragic events of our lives [death of our children at birth or developmental (permanent) disabilities – we are certainly feeling “the pinch”, financial burden of these outcomes, often without even realizing it or understanding increased costs of our lives and Our Health Care. . .
If you ever wonder why the costs of US Health Care keep increasing, here is your answer… Premature Birth Certainly Plays the Leading Role in it.
Many other serious problems and social issues have been neglected and cannot be funded or adequately taken care of thanks to this “Barrel without Bottom” (thanks to covering UNINSURED COSTS of Preterm Births) that keeps melting our National Budget. And, as we all know. . . Someone always has to pay. And, if you are guessing. . . You guessed it right! It’s you and me, it is us – the people. . . Tax payers, if you will! Whether through our tax rates or Health and Life Insurance premiums, we always pick up the tab at the end. . . I could go on and on about it and lay down for you all the reasons that motivated me to write this publication and start this project. I could tell you about our National Divorce Rate and Statistics (40% – 60% according to Wikipedia), various addictions and how’s that reflects on our National IMR and DDR, etc. However, I do not think that would be really necessary at this time. *- Message to my Project Supporters: The Introduction is only an excerpt from the book, to give you an idea about the manuscript and where it goes. My main goal is to put this publication in as many hands as I possibly can and you can help if you want. I intend to have Fundraising Campaign for publishing the book and building an educational Web-Platform called The Future Makers (www.thefuturemakers.us). More about The Future Makers Project will be recorded and published on the one of Crowd-Funding Platforms. There are three ways you can take a part in this project, help and become Supporters. . . Financially – to get cool, interesting and unique perks and rewards (signed and collectible books especially printed for my supporters, etc.) in return for your financial contributions; Let Others Know – You can inform the network of people you know (family, friends, acquaintances, clients, colleagues, employees, etc.) or You can do both.
